Inquirer wins best news photo, gets citations in CMMA
A moving photo of Catholic lay minister Bennielita Sanchez comforting an elderly, ailing woman lying on a mat in her cramped home won for Inquirer photographer Lyn Rillon the Best News Photograph on Wednesday night’s 39th Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA) at Star City Theater. The photo accompanied a story, “Savior to street oldies,” that was published in October 2016.
Other stories and photographs that captured the brutality of the government’s war on drugs, as well as offered alternatives for rehabilitation and redemption for the drug suspects won citations from the body, which carried the theme, “Communicating hope and trust in our time,” for this year’s awards.
